The sinkhole opened at 7:42am on Elm Reach, roughly a metre in front of a Route 12 bus carrying 42 passengers to work.
Mira Halloway, 29, put the bus in reverse and drove it backwards four hundred metres, in traffic, without hitting anything.
Asked for comment, Halloway said: "It's a bus. It goes backwards. Please write about the hole."
The hole, transit director Desmond Quay confirmed, is 'under review', a phrase that in Huburb has an average duration of nineteen months.
